I decided to get this for basicly what it is intended for. I tryed it out on a 2X4 and it cut very nice, and the edge is still very sturdy.
But sadly, I was disapointed because it was MADE IN CHINA. Not something all knife people like, but the main reason I gave it 3 stars was because the black oxide were the blade made impact started to come off the VERY FIRST swing as if it was spray painted.
Im sorry Cold Steel but step up your game, this "spray painted" machete is nice, but "paint" is unacceptable.
The Sheath is very nice aswell.
I would have given it a 4 if it was not for the crappy, so called "black oxide". Don't paint it Cold Steel!

Fantastic value - nice, durable knife. Use it a lot for splitting firewood. Works way better than a hatchet. I'm thinking about picking up two more to keep in our cars' emergency kits.

I don't know about using this to hack through jungles, but if you collect effective combat oriented blades, especially if you're a soldier serving overseas, this is pretty much one of the most affordable and formidable ones you'll find in the 12 inch long size range. It is light, but not flimsy. The blade shape is perfect for slashing or thrusting. It is pretty much a short sword or gladius-like dagger. I suppose if you wanted to really use it as a jungle machete, you would want it to be more top-heavy than it is, but I don't mind. I have the 18 inch one also, but I have to say the 12 inch one is better, more efficient, because the weight and balance are perfect for slash or thrust, whereas the 18 inch model is easier to swing with than to thrust with. For this price it is hard to go wrong, I don't think I've seen anything better in this size range.
